Buffalo Business Report- Thursday March 21, 2013

The state budget plan agreed to overnight includes the minimum wage hike that groups like the Business Council of New York State have fought against.
The agreement would raise the $7.25 hourly minimum wage to $9 over three years, without automatic increases tied to inflation.   While the small business group has been against the wage hike, the Retail Council of New York State says it will help their members- mostly small stores-- because lower income consumers will have more money to spend.

Tourism officials are puzzled-- some say even stunned by the late decision not to have the National Veterans Golden Age Games this year. The five day event was supposed to start in Buffalo at the end of May,  and could have brought more than 2, 500 visitors to the area, but Business First reports it has been canceled, without any real explanation

KeyCorp - the parent company of 73 Key Bank branches locally --  has the go ahead from federal officials to buy back up to $426 million dollars of its own stock. The repurchase plan will go into effect by the end of this year.

Mattress firm has announced an expansion into Niagara county. The company's fifth store will open on South Transit Road in the Transit Square Plaza in April
