Nurses Union At Kenmore Mercy "Prepares For Strike"
After voting down a contract proposal for the second time, nurses in Communications Workers of America Local 1133 are preparing for a strike at Kenmore Mercy Hospital.
In announcing the vote totals of a March 19 vote taken by the union's 270 nurses at the facility, the union said its bargaining team is "preparing for a strike," according to an update for workers, posted on the union's website.
A timetable for the job action was not revealed. A federal mediator has called for both parties to meet on April 9, according to a union statement
The union says 70 percent of those who voted on March 19 decided to reject the latest agreement with the hospital. Terms of that deal, and their prior settlement agreement were not released.
The union had previously voted down a contract proposal on Feb. 11.
"In (the) CWA a 'No' vote on the contract is a 'Yes' vote for a strike. Therefore the nurses at Kenmore Mercy have spoken loud and clear. They are willing to strike Kenmore Mercy to get a fair agreement," the union said in a prepared statement.
