Danny Hakim reports that the review is being conducted by the Assembly Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions. Its chairman, James F. Brennan (D-Brooklyn), sent a letter to Empire State Development Corporation, asking for documents related to the deal.
The focus appears to be the propriety of the arrangement, especially regarding access to valuable perks. From the article:
A spokesman for the Cuomo administration says the information has been public for months, but this part of the transaction was not widely known until the March 22 New York Times article was picked up by WBEN and other local media outlets.
Mr. Brennan said in an interview that former Gov. David A. Paterson “was fined $62,000 by the state ethics commission for getting free tickets for seats at Yankee Stadium, so I think there’s an issue about the appropriateness of state officials getting free tickets to sporting events.”
“We’d like to get their explanation for the legality of the conduct, or potential conduct,” he continued.
