While Buffalo has a lot of pollen on its own to deal with, pollen from other places contribute.
"Pollens are airborne for hundreds of miles, so we may be the pollen capital, we may be receiving the gift of pollen from adjacent areas depending on where the winds are blowing," explains Sands.
Sands says global warming has led to worse allergy suffering in parts of Europe as well as the US.
If you're a sufferer but long to be outside, Sands suggests removing most clothing once you get inside.
"Pollen sticks to everything, and showering at night also helps because pollen gets stuck to hair and skin too," notes Sands.
