Office of General Services spokeswoman Heather Groll said Tuesday that it will cost an estimated $60,000 to replace the grass in West Capitol Park, including $30,000 for materials and another $30,000 for labor.
Thousands of opponents of the state's new gun-control law held a rally in the park on Feb. 28, including 2 busses sponsored by WBEN, and several others from WNY.
A time lapse video of the event-- taken by a protestors Ipad has been sent to the Albany Times Union, and is spotlighting the conditions on the plaza before, during and after the protests.
"... the video will either serve as the Zapruder Film for the assassination (albeit unintentional) of the turf by the protesters, or as proof that the lawn wasn’t looking too hot in the first place — we’ll call this the Not-So-Grassy Knoll Theory."
Rain and sleet on the day of the rally helped turn the lawn into a muddy mess. Groll says repair work has begun and the area is blocked off. New sod is expected to be put down later this month.
