Time to Break the Chain & Break Out the Elastic Pants

"Dine Often. Dine Local. Dine Well!"

Bananas Foster Bread Pudding

That’s the Local Restaurant Week (LRW) slogan and it’s my mantra too.  LRW is a bi-annual event celebrating its ninth run as one of our region’s most popular food events. Every spring and fall, local, independent eateries throughout Erie and Niagara counties offer hungry diners a chance to enjoy all types of cuisine made by the locals, not national cookie-cutter chain restaurants. Dining features start at $20.13.

LRW Filet of Sirloin Au Poivre and Shrimp Scampi
Running from April 22 – 28, here are a few new tasty tidbits to chew on:

• Of the 200 participating places, 22 new first time LRW restaurants are on board
• More than 60 restaurants are offering lunch dining features, nearly all of them 2 for $20.13
• The local food service industry is the region’s second largest employer.
• The local economic impact for LRW each year is more than $8 million

“This is the 9th time we have run LRW.  We feel very fortunate that the promotion has been embraced by Western New Yorkers and that is has become such a highly anticipated event,” said Christa Hobart, event organizer.  “Many people go out several times a week, trying a different place every day.  We have so many incredible local independent restaurants right here in our own neighborhoods, so many of which are synonymous with Buffalo.  You mention Buffalo and the conversation quickly turns to food and treasured iconic restaurants like Chef’s, Ilio Di’Paolo’s and Schwabl’s,” added Hobart.

From Corfu to Clarence, from Wilson to Williamsville, Local Restaurant Week is the ideal way   to visit places you’ve always wanted to try or chow down at a place you haven’t dropped by in a long time, all for a fixed price of $20.13! Check out the entire list at www.LocalRestaurantWeek.com.

Time to Break the Chain & Break Out the Elastic Pants
Like many fellow foodies, I’m plotting my strategy for this week’s food fun. Do you do the same? Where have you been and what would you recommend?

Every night we go out this week
I'm w/ you, Brenda! My family and I pick different areas every night and try places we've never been to before. I love this idea! One of our favorites is Amici in Kenmore; also love Black & Blue in Amherst.

Make sure you try...
Prosit on Main St. in Williamsville if you like Polish or German food. Glad they in the promotion this week!

Eat your way through the city!
At our house we tend to go a little overboard during Local Restaurant Week. We try a couple new places for lunch, one evening out with the kids at family friendly joint then attempt to do at least one date night dinner. It's a great excuse to go out and try a new place you've been meaning to go to but just haven't made the time to do. We love supporting independent local restaurants and there are so choose from. Decisions. Decisions!

Sushi and more
Had a wonderful and filling meal at Sake Cafe: Miso soup, eggplant app, and two delicious types of salmon and scallop sushi with a glass of wine was quite a bargain. Check it out. Cool place, great service.

Curly's was excellent
Great value and food at Curly's in Lackawanna. Had Black Bean Soup, Chicken Piccata and a delicious mango sorbet that included crunchy pralines. The piccata was one of the best I had--they should add it to their regular menu.

Ohlson's Bakery & Cafe
Tried Ohlson's Bakery and Cafe for lunch. 2 for $20.13 LRW special. Delicious! Very homey inside with wonderful ladies who served us. I had a pork and brie panini and it was incredible! And the brownie for dessert was to die for! We are certainly going back for more. Delightful spot for lunch and delectable baked treats!

Rizotto's was delicious!
I went to Rizotto's for LRW. It was delicious and the portion sizes were plentiful! I usually go to a few restaurants during LRW and try to hit only the restaurants I've never been to before. Glad I gave Rizotto's a try and will definitely be back again!

Wish this ran longer
One week is not enough! How about two weeks or the whole month?

Disappointed
Rizzoto's was out of their special fish, and the chicken they substituted was pretty flavorless. Even the vegetable sides were soggy and bland. Very disappointed!
