FBI, RCMP 'Joined at Hip' Against Al-Qaida

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A former FBI supervisor says it's no surprise the FBI had a hand in helping the Royal Canadian Mounted Police get their men in a foiled terror plot in Toronto.

"I would expect the RCMP and FBI joined at the hip when there's any investigation involving al-Qaida," says John Culhane, now with Hilbert College's criminal justice department. It's something he's seen first hand. "Our squad had the James Charles Kopp investigation, and we worked with OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) and RCMP very closely to resolve that issue because Mr, Kopp would cross the border to shoot doctors (who provided abortions)."

Culhane says the extent of damage de-railing a passenger train would have depends on several things. "How it was derailed, where it was derailed, and how many people were involved," explains Culhane. Those specifics were not specified by the RCMP Monday.

But Culhane says if the FBI knows of such a plot, it would be foiled before terrorists even got close to pulling it off. "They'd never let it get that far if they knew about it.ahead of time. Sounds like they've been working on it since August, and they're procluded from letting it get to the point where people get hurt," says Culhane.
