Why is Apple Stock Rotting?

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Apple stock has been dropping in value over the past few months. One expert says there's been a lack of excitement in new products.

"There's an impression people are getting tired of what Apple is producing," says CNET's Bridget Carey. "They're looking for that one exciting thing that will wow them, that will change the game, it hasn't happened in a while."

Carey says it's funny how Apple is amazing in sales, but investors are saying it's not good enough. But there's one area Apple may be weak. "People go to Apple for hardware, but they're going to Google for software. For example, Apple's maps were an embarrassment with incomplete maps, people wanted to use Google's software. Software is the new battleground," explains Carey.

Carey says there are reports Apple may produce an IPhone made of plastic.

"That will make it much more affordable, and may be one marketplace Apple is trying to take advantage of if they do this by going into a market where people don't want to pay $600 for a smartphone all at once, and maybe want a cheaper phone without a contract, and it's also for emerging markets in other countries where they would eat up cheaper phones in a heartbeat," adds Carey.

A product that could be coming soon from Apple: a smartwatch.

"Everyone's buzzing about an iWatch, and we've heard buzz from Microsoft and Google tinkering with the concept of a smartwatch. Perhaps, this will make sense to expect Apple to take the lead on this one," says Carey..
