But Regier didn't have much to say when it came to Ryan Miller and Thomas Vanek. "I have spoken with both of those players, Terry (Pegula) has spoken with both of those players," but Regier didn't have much to say other than he doesn't know. "But certainly as it goes, the value of players entering the last year of their contracts have one value at the trade deadline, another value at the draft, another value following free agency, and the last value at the following trade deadline," says Regier.
The news conference was heated at times between Black and several reporters, especially when questions came to the absence of team owner Terry Pegula. "Terry asked me to speak about the day to day operaitons of the team, and he will serve as an owner in the traditional sense," says Black. "The hiring and firing of a coach, that's Darcy's job." Black later apologized for losing his cool with reporters during the news conference.
On the pursuit of a Stanley Cup, Regier says it may require some suffering. "Terry has told us to take different routes to win a Stanley Cup sooner than later. I hope fans are willing to go through some suffering," notes Regier.
