Guilty Plea in Burning of Dog

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A Buffalo teen pleads guilty to setting a Jack Russell terrier on fire.

19 year old Adell Ziegler admitted pouring lighter fluid on Phoenix back on October 29th and lighting the dog on fire. Phoenix suffered 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns to more than half of his body. Prosecutors say Ziegler has admitted his action to family and friends and "has boasted this case has made him famous."

Ziegler faces up to two years in prison when he's sentenced June 14th.

His nephew Diondre Brown pleaded guilty December 5th to aggravated cruelty to animals, the same charge as Ziegler.

Erie County DA Frank Sedita says, "Because of the efforts of veterinary professionals like Dr. (Rebecca) Wagner, the life of a helpless puppy was saved. Because of the law enforcement professionals like (Felony Trial Bureau Chief Kristin) St. Mary, a demented and remoreseless animal abuser was prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
