Buffalo, NY (WBEN) As Bernie Tolbert announces his campaign for Mayor, the chairman of Erie County's Democratic Party is giving his support to Mayor Byron Brown and is urging his fellow Democrats to do the same.
Chairman Jeremy Zellner today issued this statement in recommending Brown for endorsement: “I was elected to bring the Democratic Party together and I am doing just that. This is an important year, especially on the countywide level, and I am not interested in continuing the battles of the past. I am committed to uniting our party and moving it forward. I have had many conversations with Mayor Brown, and he has assured me that he is ready to work hand-in-hand with the Party.
“I have tremendous respect for all of the City of Buffalo Zone leaders, and we will go through our normal process of convening the executive committee for interviews and endorsements.
“I am confident that Mayor Brown and I can work together to strengthen the party’s ticket this year, including our incumbent county legislators in the City of Buffalo: Timothy Hogues, Betty Jean Grant and Lynn Marinelli.
“We also have a qualified slate of countywide candidates led by Judge Barbara Howe, who is up for reelection to the Surrogate Court; Mary Carney and Paul Crapsi for Family Court; Bert Dunn for Sheriff and Lynn Szalkowski, a CPA, for Comptroller.
“I look forward to working with Mayor Brown and his team to support all of our candidates and I am excited for this process to take place.”
