East Aurora's Bob Vidler Dies; Ran Landmark 5 & Ten Store
(WBEN) Robert Vidler Jr. one of the brothers behind the landmark Vidlers 5-and-10 Store in East Aurora has died.
Vidler, who joined with his brother Ed to take over their father's 1930 dry goods store on Main Street in East Aurora, presided over the store's growth into an iconic site, stretching across many storefronts and carrying everything from vintage candy to unusual housewares items.
Vidler was 88 and died at his home in Ithaca NY, on April 26.
In the 90s he and Ed starred in several of what the store's website calls "sometimes corny, always humorous" ads which poked fun at the store's heritage and themselves.
