BATAVIA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a western New York man is in jail after shoppers at a Wal-Mart store say he slapped his 7-year-old son and slammed the boy onto the floor.
State police say troopers were called to the Wal-Mart store in Batavia in Genesee County after witnesses said a man yelled at a boy, then picked the child up and slammed him to the floor Thursday afternoon.
Troopers say they obtained a photograph of the man from the store's surveillance camera and posted the image on a local news website. The man was identified as 28-year-old Christopher Cummings of Warsaw, who was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and harassment. He's being held in the county jail on $2,500 bail. It couldn't be determined if he had a lawyer.
The boy wasn't injured.
