Buffalo, NY (WBEN) -- Some Buffalo streets will be blocked off early this morning for the running of the Buffalo Marathon.
The race kicks off at the Hyatt Regency downtown at 7 a.m. Streets used for the race will be closed until at least 10 a.m.
Buffalo Police are reminding residents and motorists along the marathon course that they might experience some travel delays or interruptions, and should plan accordingly.
Also, Buffalo police are discouraging the use or carrying of back packs at the start and finish lines. Back packs could be subject to checks. Bags will be checked for enter at the post-race party at the Buffalo Convention Center.
Race organizers will not be allowing runners to bring anything to the start line they do not plan to carry through the race.
The extra security was inspired by the attacks at the Boston Marathon. There will be several tributes to the runners and people in Boston, including a temporary tattoo issued with every race pack (pictured above).
