Clarence, NY (WBEN) A high speed chase that started when state police tried to stop a motorcycle on Main Street in Clarence, ended in a crash with a Clarence High School senior killed.
Troopers say they stopped 18 year old Patrick Conway for not having a rear license plate on his bike along Main Street, near 9 am Wednesday.
After initially complying with the stop, investigators say Conway sped off on Main, eventually colliding with another car just past Harris Hill Road.
Conway died at the scene.
Clarence High School issued a statement Wednesday saying "our entire high school has been impacted by this loss," and counselors will be available all week to help students and faculty.
"We got word around 10am, when State Police informed us Patrick Conway died," says Clarence High School prinicpal Ken Smith. "That trickled down throughout the day." Conway says counselors are on hand to help those impacted.
Smith says Conway was a well liked member of the school community. "He was kind and respectful, and was going to serve our country in the Marine Corps," explains Smith.
Conway was to have graduated with his class in a matter of days.
