(WBEN) The New York State Department of Transportation announced that several travel restrictions will be in effect on Interstate 290 in the towns of Amherst and Tonawanda, Erie County, beginning on Monday, June 17, thru Wednesday, June 19.
Nightly ramp closures will occur Monday, June 17 thru Wednesday, June 19, from 11:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m., on Interstate 290 eastbound between Exit 3, US Route 62 (Niagara Falls Boulevard), and Exit 7, NY Route 5 (Main Street). Posted detour routes will direct traffic around the affected ramps. These ramp closures are necessary to conduct re-paving.
In addition, on Tuesday, June 18, a right lane closure will occur on Interstate 290 eastbound at Exit 4 – Interstate 990, from 7:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m., and on Wednesday, June 19, a right lane closure will occur on Interstate 290 westbound at Exit 4 – Interstate 990, from 7:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. These lane closures are necessary to conduct bridge inspections.
This work is weather sensitive and will be delayed in the event of inclement weather.
Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
