What Do Sabres Need as Free Agency Starts?
Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Free agency begins in the NHL today. Two experts say the Buffalo Sabres' shopping list may depend on whether two big names are moved.
"It depends on how much they really think they can really trade Ryan Miller or Thomas Vanek or both," says NHL.com's Dan Rosen. "That could clear up a lot of cap space." Yahoo Puck Daddy writer Greg Wyshynski agrees. "I think this is a team that's likely to expunge talent rather than bring in new talent," he believes.
A big need according to Rosen is in the middle. "They need a center. They need (Mikhail) Grigorenko to develop, they need to re-sign Cody Hodgson," says Rosen.
Wyshsynski says there's a bumper crop of goalies in free agency, and Ryan Miller is under contract this year and that could mean trouble if the Sabres try to move him. Rosen says that uncertainty may be why big name centers may hesitate to go to Buffalo.
