Pittsford, NY (WBEN) Players report to Bills training camp today, but other members of the organization have been on site longer, helping to turn St. John Fisher College into the August home of the Bills.
"There's a lot of hard work that goes into it," says Bills spokesman Scott Berchtold, who notes it takes roughly a month to turn the campus into football central. "The people at St. John Fisher College are tremendous in their efforts to transform their campus into our training camp."
One of the factors is transforming the dorms. "The players don't need as much furniture as there are normally in the dorms. Sometimes, the players will put in a different size bed, if you can imagine," notes Berchtold. There's also the addition of things not seen on campus. "The merchandise tent goes up every year on campus, down by the practice field. That's not normally on campus, so that has to be put up. Same with the vendors," explains Berchtold.
After last week's heat wave, the heat is on the minds of fans and players alike. Berchtold says the team is monitoring players, emphasizing hydration, and if it gets too hot, more breaks will be taken. "We also have a cooling off pool, in case it's needed," adds Berchtold.
