Could President Obama Head to Buffalo?
Buffalo, NY (WBEN) This week, President Obama is on vacation. In a couple of weeks, he could be in Western New York.
Politico.com is reporting Obama will head to upstate New York and Pennsylvania in the coming weeks, for a bus tour focusing on his message of backing the middle class just before the start of fall budget negotiations. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz says he has not received confirmation from the White House, but has heard from various sources Obama will "either be the first or last stop" when he does the tour. Poloncarz anticipates White House confirmation soon. "I am expecting I will hear something in the next 24 to 48 hours, and if there is final confirmation, I expect an advance team to be in town in the next few days," says Poloncarz.
He says Buffalo is the perfect location for the president's stop. "We're seeing tremendous job growth from January of last year to May of this year. We lead the world, when it comes to advanced manufacturing. We have manufacturers people don't know about who make products used in high tech areas," notes Poloncarz.
The Albany Times-Union's Jimmy Vielkind is quoting sources who say the president's travel plans include a stop in or near Buffalo as part of his swing August 22nd and 23rd. Other cities cited are Syracuse, Binghamton and Scranton, PA.
