Amherst, NY (WBEN) Amherst Police are looking for a suspicious man in connection with an assault on a bike path.
Police say they responded to a complaint of an assault on the Ellicott Creek bike path just before noon and met the victim, a 44 year old Amherst man, in the Northtown Center parking lot adjacent to the path. The victim had sustained injuries to his face, chest and arms. He reported to officers that he had been walking on the path when a white female in her twenties ran past him in the opposite direction. He stated she looked afraid, and possibly was crying. Moments later a white male subject appeared running in the same direction. It appeared to the victim that this subject was chasing the female. The victim attempted to intervene and was immediately assaulted with some sort of wooden club.
Police say the woman continued to run towards the Northtown lot. After disengaging the victim, the suspect ran off in the opposite direction through some heavy brush. Amherst Police, assisted by the University at Buffalo Police Department, established a perimeter and a K-9 track was performed with negative results.
The suspect was further described as a white male, 6’3 to 6’4, large muscular build, approximately 250 pounds, wearing a white tee shirt with either a design or discoloration on the front, faded blue jeans and white shoes. He had short brown hair and was wearing a bracelet made of beads and sunglasses.
The female has not yet contacted the police department at time of report. She was further described as a white female in her twenties wearing a white tank top, with dark hair in a ponytail. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on the incident, or either of the outstanding individuals, is asked to call the Amherst Police Department at (716) 689-1311
