(AP/WBEN) Authorities say a worker has been injured in an explosion at an asphalt plant in rural western New York.
Fire officials tell WIVB-TV in Buffalo that one worker was injured when the blast occurred around 6 a.m. Friday at the Gernatt Asphalt Products plant in the Cattaraugus County village of Delevan, 35 miles southeast of Buffalo.
Delevan Fire Chief Jeff Holmes says the blast happened as workers were getting ready to make blacktop. He says one was taken to a Buffalo hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
WGRZ-TV reports that a company official says the blast occurred around 6:30 a.m. Friday at the Gernatt Asphalt Products plant in the Cattaraugus County village of Delevan, 35 miles southeast of Buffalo.
A person living near the plant tells the station the explosion shook her home and another says a medical helicopter has been called to the scene.
Gernatt operates more than a dozen plants and excavation sites that supply sand, gravel and other construction materials in western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania.
