Buffalo, NY (WBEN) -- Developer Carl Paladino was the winning bidder at Saturday morning's auction, purchasing Holy Angels Academy for $2.9 million.
The former Catholic girls' school closed its doors in June, due to declining enrollment and mounting debt.
Paladino's purchase includes the building and the surrounding grounds on Hertel Avenue in North Buffalo. He also bought up large amounts of gymnasium equipment.
The developer and Buffalo school board member may be setting the table for another school to move in, although not necessarily a public one. The Buffalo News notes that Paladino's firm, Ellicott Development, has renovated three parcels that became charter schools: Tapestry Charter, West Buffalo Charter, and Health Sciences Charter.
