How Much Does Your Town or Village Pay in Salaries?
(WBEN/AP) A new report showing pay for New York's county and municipal employees lists one public worker from Long Island getting nearly $360,000 in Suffolk County followed by a police officer paid $306,000 in neighboring Nassau County.
Locally Arcade has the highest average salary of any general village employee, and Amherst of any town, not counting police or fire salaries which the state retirement system lists separately. (SEE BELOW)
The report from the Empire Center for Public Policy (READ IT HERE) shows the highest average municipal salaries led by the villages of Sands Point, averaging $91,000 for general employees, and Amityville at nearly $176,000 for police.
Erie County pays its employees more on average than some of the others in WNY, with an average salary $44,600; Cattaraugus pays its officials the lowest average salary of any county in WNY at $38,454., the report says.

Among cities in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie & Niagara Counties, Jamestown pays its people the most, with an average salary for all but police and fire employees of $53,579. North Tonawanda reported the highest average salary for police and fire workers ($83,938) in that same region, according to the Empire Center's analysis.
Across New York State, 16 of the 20 highest paid employees were police.The report says George Gatta Jr., executive vice president of Suffolk County Community College, collected $359,632 before retiring in February.
