"Because it is such a small community, everybody knows everybody and everybody is involved in what everybody else is doing whether it's sports or school, so it's very tight knit and everyone's willing to support them," says Chris Sausaman, who is planning a benefit for the Janes family later this month.
"The reason we're having the benefit is because we can't begin to understand what the family is going through. You can never expect to bury your own child," says Sausaman.
The event will be held September 29th at the Nickel Plate Depot in Brocton.

Damon William Janes, age 16, of Brocton, NY, went to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon, Sept. 16, 2013 at Women & Children's Hospital in Buffalo, NY, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 21, 1997 in Westfield, NY, the son of Dean W. Janes and Penny L. Gilbert-Robinson of Brocton, NY.
Damon was a junior at Brocton Central School in Brocton, NY. His great love of sports began with his playing soccer at the young age of 4. He later participated in basketball, street hockey, ice skating and snowboarding.
A phenomenal football player, Damon gained great respect throughout the county. He had been playing football since the age of 9 and proudly wore the number 25 this year.
His true passion was his love of Motocross and his bike boasted his favorite number, 711. Damon was an avid fisherman and hunter who excelled in everything he ever did.
Damon had a love for life and lived it to the fullest. He put 110 percent into everything he did. His motto was, "Giving up is simply not an Option." His contagious personality was loved by everyone he encountered. He was a big jokester and trickster and was one to never hold back a com-ment to make you laugh and make your day brighter. Damon's hugs were unforgettable. They would literally take your breath away.
Besides his parents, Damon is survived by two brothers, Dean R. Janes and Dylin Williams and one sister, Hailey G. Williams, all of Brocton, NY; his paternal grandparents, Walter "Bud" and Linda Janes of Brocton, NY; maternal grandmother, Ruth Gilbert; his maternal great-grandmother, Ada Gilbert; his aunts and uncles, Greg (Jen) Janes, Kerri (Kurt) Smith, Larimey Gilbert, Ryan Wakeley and David and Kate Robinson. He is also survived by two special people, Keith Williams and Amy Thorpe.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, Sept. 21, 2013 at 11 a.m. from Lakeshore Assembly of God, 252 East Main St., Westfield, NY 14787. The Rev. Scott Lashbrook will officiate. Interment will follow at the Portland Evergreen Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Morse Funeral Home, 51 Highland Ave., Brocton, NY, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9. The family suggests memorials be made to the Damon Janes Memorial Fund at any branch of Community Bank, N.A.
