2 Years Since Jamey Rodemayer Bullying-Related Suicide
Amherst, NY (WBEN) -- Wednesday marked the two-year anniversary of the suicide of Amherst teenager Jamey Rodemayer, who was bullied for being bisexual.
The shock from Jamey's death extended well beyond Western New York, and the ripple effects continue even today.
In part because his last tweet was a message to entertainer Lady Gaga ("@ladygaga bye mother monster, thank you for all you have done, paws up forever"), she became a fierce advocate for Jamey, even meeting with President Barack Obama.
Actor Zachary Quinto ("Star Trek" film) cited Rodemayer's death as his reason to publicly come out as gay. A message of support posted by Lady Gaga this morning took 4 hours and 43 minutes to gather 100,000 "Likes" on Facebook.
