A Tip of the Toque to Corner Bakery Cafe and the Boulevard Mall

Kudos to a pair of local businesses—one a relative newcomer to the Buffalo area and the other a well-established icon in the community:  Corner Bakery Café and the Boulevard Mall recently sponsored events to help those in need.

Corner Bakery Café baked goods
For the month of September, Corner Bakery Café, a quick casual eatery located on Niagara Falls Boulevard in the Burlington Plaza in Amherst, participated in Share Our Strength’s Dine Out For No Kid Hungry campaign, in which customers made a donation and in return received their Whoopee Cookie or a book of coupons.

Owner Fran DeSimone said the goal is to help eradicate childhood hunger.  “Nothing is more important than kids. This is our chance to help out hungry children, feed the future,” said DeSimone. “All of the money stays in Buffalo too.”

Not only are the folks at Corner Bakery Café good citizens, they have a menu that I instantly fell in love with. I’ve had breakfast, lunch and dinner at Corner Bakery (not all at once!) and I’m crazy about their filling yet healthy choices, such as Power Breakfast Panini made with eggs, and your choice of spinach, chicken sausage, avocado, to name a few. They are introducing new hoagies later this month.

“Everything is made from scratch from baked goods to our croutons, even our garlic mayonnaise and all of our entrees. The bread is baked here too,” DeSimone explained. You can get their delicious food delivered too and they cater, perfect for office and house parties. In my many trips there, I noticed a private conference room separate from the dining area. Accommodating up to 50 people, it’s equipped with AV equipment and screens.

Corner Bakery Café gets the “Bites Seal of Approval”!

If you’d like to visit this Saturday, Oct. 5, they will celebrate their one year anniversary and give away coffee mugs, free coffee for a year and free Panini for a year. No purchase necessary. Come by and meet STAR 102.5’s Roger Christian and enter to win, all from noon – 2pm.

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the second annual “Buffalo’s Best Food Truck Contest” in the Boulevard Mall parking lot.

The weather was gorgeous and brought out a big crowd of hungry visitors who had plenty of truck-side cuisine from which to choose: Roaming Buffalo, Lloyd’s, The Black Market, House of Munch, The Knight Slider, Greek on the Street and more. Visitors could cast their ballot for their favorite truck and donate clothing and non-perishable items.

Mall general manager Brian Calvert said he and his wife, Kerry, like food trucks and wanted to give back to the community. The Calverts hand-rolled and baked 50 homemade pies and donated the delectable dessert to the Buffalo City Mission. “The City Mission was on-site to collect the many donations people generously contributed,” Calvert said. One lucky person won a $100 mall shopping spree for entering; a portion of all proceeds benefited the Mission.

Thanks to the Calverts and marketing manager Betsey Bonvissuto for taking time from their busy schedules to help such a worthy cause!
