Rendering of New Outer Harbor Park

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - Members of different community organizations including the Buffalo Riverkeeper and the Olmstead parks conservatory joined together today to release a rendering for a new Outer Harbor Park that would reside on nearly 100 acres of vacant property along Fuhrmann Boulevard.

"The rendering is meant to further public dialog on the future use of this land," said Joanne Kahn, head of the 21st Century Park on the Outer Harbor Group. "We see it as being able to create a wonderful, regional, exciting, recreational, attraction."

Planners say the park would provide easy access to the water for fishing and sailing, and view the park as an escape for those living in the city

The land is part of the property that the NFTA gave back to New York State last month. "What that did is freed up tremendous amounts of parcel over here on the waterfront," said State Senator Mark Grisanti.

The planned park is not a go just yet, planners said it would ultimately be up to the public to decide what is done with the land.
