(WBEN) One year after he took over the office on an interim basis, Incumbent Republican was Stefan Mychajliw, a former television reporter and public relations executive was re-elected to a full term as Erie County's Comptroller.
He will now serve the next four years after beating out challenger Kevin Gaughan, a longtime civic activist and attorney.
In unofficial vote totals early Wednesday morning, Mychajliw had 58 percent of the vote to Gaughan's 42 percent. Gaughan, running for public office for the sixth time, received over 67,000 votes to Mychajliw's approx. 92,000.
After winning almost 60% of the vote, Mychajliw said it's clear what the people are asking for with his election.
" The people spoke loud and clear about what the people's mandate is in Erie County.. the people's mandate is having a tough as nails comptroller in that office and making sure that taxes and spending go down in this county,"
