Buffalo, NY (WBEN) -- On Sunday, the Buffalo Sabres will wear their 2013-2014 third jerseys for the first time in a game, when they host the Detroit Red Wings.
The new jerseys are, shall we say, not universally loved.
Depending on who you ask, the yellow and blue shirts are super-duper ugly, horrid, perhaps the NHL's worst, or -- most memorably -- a potential "turd burger." When team president Ted Black used that colorful phrase on WGR to describe his predicament ("...if it's a turd burger, I'll have to put it on a bun and eat it. It's the way it is..."), he may have inadvertently tagged the new entries for all time (see: "Buffaslug").
To be fair, when the jerseys were revealed last month, there were several neutral responses at first. But as more websites weighed in, every sports blogger with a smartphone looked at the prevailing opinion, and it became a landslide of insults.
Well, let me assure you, I have found an uglier jersey. Sadly, this one was definitely on purpose.
The ECHL's Reading Royals will wear "Ugly Christmas Sweater" jerseys for a game December 14th. We have a side-by-side comparison in the photo. See? No contest.
