BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Officials from Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the University at Buffalo say a merger of the institutions is off the table as they discuss ways to strengthen their relationship.
They made the announcement Monday after a meeting that included officials from the two institutions and state Health Commissioner Dr. Nirav Shah.
In a joint statement, the officials said the institutions will continue and expand their longtime academic collaboration as independent partners. They said participants at Monday's meeting also expressed interest in enlarging collaboration in education, research and medical care to include other health care institutions in the Buffalo region.
Buffalo's John Oshei foundation has hired a consultant to seek ways to improve Roswell Park's business model.
