Evans Police Search for Person Who Dumped Injured Puppy

Evans, NY (WBEN) Evans Police are looking for the person responsible for abandoning a puppy, leaving it on the side of Holland Road Thursday morning.

Chief Ernest Masullo tells WBEN a hunter heard a car door shut and when he turned around, "he saw a white car speed away, and he found a small puppy on the side of the road with an injured left rear leg." Masullo says the hunter brought the dog to the police station, where it was turned over to dog control. A veterinarian is now checking the dog over.

"It's a beautiful 10-12 week old puppy, and I don't understand why people do this," says Masullo. "You could walk up to anyone and hand him a puppy and say, 'Here, have a free puppy,' and they'd love it."

Masullo says whoever did this faces an animal abuse misdemanor.
