'Tis The Season... To Ship!

Cheektowaga, NY (WBEN) - For most people this time of year is the Holiday season, but for Owner of the UPS store on Union Road in Cheektowaga John Kwiecinski, it's the shipping season, and there's no shortage of things to know before sending your gift
The US Postal Service says time is running short to get your package out in time for Christmas delivery.

USPS Spokesperson Karen Mazurkiewicz says if you're sending mail to servicemen overseas, tomorrow is the day to get it in. "Maybe you're sending to Canada to Europe, December 12th is the cutoff date for priority mail," notes Mazurkiewicz. For domestic mail, December 20th is the deadline for priority mail.

But, if you do procrastinate, Mazurkiewicz says there are options, albeit more costly. "There is priority mail express for those who wait, and we'll accept mail by December 23rd for that," says Mazurkiewicz.

Mazurkiewicz notes if you're sending gift cards through the mail, be sure to use a sturdy envelope. "Also put a return address on the gift card in case the card is separated from the envelope so we can make sure we get it to the right person," she adds.
"People can bring them (packages) in a box, already wrapped up, we discourage using brown paper, because that rips in the machines and then the label gets lost and we won't know where that package is going and then everybody behind you, there package gets slowed down going through the system" said Kwiecinski.

"We don't want people to use liquor boxes, or anything with tobacco or firearms on it, or any hazardous material notations. If you have fragile items we recommend that you bring them in and we can pack them for you."

Kwiecinski says that the packages have been rolling in. "We have been picking up steadily since the holiday, we will get busier next week, and by the 16th, 17th, and 18th, we'll be very busy. Those are the days that if you're shipping out to the west coast you'll definitely want to send them out by then."

And the busy season doesn't end when the holidays do. With more people buying gifts online, less returns are going to the mall, and more are being made through companies like UPS.
