Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - No doubt thousands of Western New Yorkers were late for work this morning as traffic ground to a halt on just about every major route across the Metro Buffalo area.
The slowdowns started with a general light snowfall across the area that combined with frigid morning temperatures to put an icy glaze on the roadways. That was enough to bring the New York State Thruway, 219, 400, I-190 and 33 all to a crawl. Add to that a major water main break in the Elm-Oak area of downtown Buffalo and the traffic mess got worse.
The snow has moved away from the Metro area and only a lake effect snow advisory is posted for the southern tier beginning later today.
