Dennis Gabryszak Accused of Harassment

Albany, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Albany Times Union is breaking news today that NYS Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak of Cheektowaga is being accused of sexual harassment by several women in his office.

The Times Union says several of his female aides were in anguish over the way Gabryszak indulged in sexual comments, inappropriate questions and unwanted social invitations, according to new complaints from three former staffers of the western New York politician. Young women in Gabryszak's office say he didn't practice what he preached, but instead created a hostile work environment. They want an investigation.

The accusations stem from at least two workers in the Assemblyman's Buffalo area office. Gabryszak has so far refused to comment on the accusations.

Erie County Democratic Chairman Jeremy Zellner told WBEN that if the allegations are true, Gabryszak should resign. "These are very troubling accusations, and very serious accusations," Zellner said. "If they are true, and if this indeed has taken place then the Assembly member needs to take a hard look at it and leave office and resign." Zellner said that the alleged behavior is not reflective of the district Gabryszak represents.

Attorney Johnny Destino of Niagara falls filed the complaints, he told WBEN that he could not make a comment at this time, and sent the following statement:

At this time we are not commenting on this matter except to acknowledge that we did file the notice of claim yesterday to preserve our clients’ rights and that copies of the complaints in this matter were mailed overnight to the Speaker of the Assembly’s offices in Albany and NYC.
