Williamsville Art Teacher Arrested on Child Endangerment Charge
Williamsville, NY (WBEN) An art teacher at Casey Middle School has been arrested and charged with having inappropriate contact with a 13 year old male student.
Amherst Police and WIlliamsville Central Schools say in a joint statement Donna Sleap was placed on paid administrative leave on December 18th.
Police and the district say In October, school staff members notified the administration about their concerns
involving Ms. Sleap's observed behaviors. The district immediately began an internal investigation and notified the Amherst Police Department. District video surveillance captured what is deemed to be inappropriate contact between Ms. Sleap and the student. The district also brought this matter to the attention of the New York State Department of Education, and they are assigning an investigator.
“This is an unfortunate matter and the district is very disturbed by these allegations,” said Superintendent Scott Martzloff. “Today’s news in no way represents the values and character of our 1,500 plus faculty and staff members who remain dedicated to being positive role models for our students. The school district is cooperating fully with the Amherst Police in the investigation and will continue to make the safety and well-being of students our top priority.”
Sleap has been a teacher with the district since 1988.
