Police say 36 year old Derie O. Mohamed was observed inside of Kenmore West school by several students and a teacher; He was not signed in as a visitor and had no legal right to be on the premises. He was subsequently arrested by patrol officers without incident. He was not armed and did not threaten anyone. Police say Mohamed was a former student, attending in the mid-1990s.
Police say Mohamed did state that he had visited Somalia a few years ago and also made a disjointed reference to “Sandy Hook” and the he “wasn’t a terrorist”. Police say these statements prompted the Police Department to contact the FBI; Mohamed was questioned by personnel from that agency.
Mohamed is scheduled for a Town of Tonawanda court appearance February 13, 2014 1:00pm. He is currently being held at the Erie County Holding Center. A forensic exam is pending.
