Kearns Wants to Know Why Sex Offenders Are in WS Neighborhood
West Seneca, NY (WBEN) Assemblyman Mickey Kearns is calling on the state for some answers as to why a number of sex offenders were placed in two group homes on Leydecker Road without informing neighbors.
Kearns says he has a few questions. "Whose decision was it to move those sex offenders? What procedures and protocols were used to determine the risk level of these offenders, and what safety precautions were used to watch over these men?" says Kearns.
Kearns has written a letter to the Office of People With Developmental Disabilities after asking for information a week ago. He also says there's a lack of transparency that needs to be addressed. "The reason why there are so many concerns is the lack of notification and the secret nature of the relocation," says Kearns.
Kearns says a lot of people are wondering why this happened. "We know a facility in Monroe County closed down. Other than that, we have not received any additional specific information I can give the residents, so that lack of communication has caused great concern," notes Kearns.
