Kearns Looks for Relief for Flood Stricken Residents
West Seneca, NY (WBEN) For the second time this year, residents along the Lexington Green neighborhood are dealing with the damage caused ice jam flooding. A local assemblyman is looking for the state to help residents.
"We don't want them to be hit with an additional bill," says Assemblyman Mickey Kearns. "Many of those properties have been assessed at their loss, many may have to be torn down." Kearns says there has been relief for residents in other parts of the state, and will call on Governor Cuomo to do the same for Lexington Green in West Seneca. "I will advocate the governor bring this funding to West Seneca, so they don't have a devastating loss."
Kearns says the town and county governments have done well, but they need help from Albany. "We need the state government to come in, make them whole, as many have lost 100 percent of what they own, and will have to pack up and move," explains Kearns. Kearns says flood insurance does not cover everything for homeowners, and is looking for a long term solution.
