Clarence OKs Takeover of 3407 Site

CLARENCE, N.Y. (AP) - A proposal to take over the property where a commuter plane crashed into a home five years ago, killing 50 people, has been approved.

The Clarence Town Board Wednesday night unanimously approved the donation of Karen Wielinski's property to the town.

Her husband and 49 people on Continental Connection Flight 3407 were killed when the plane crashed into the Wielinskis' house on the night of Feb. 12, 2009, while approaching the Buffalo airport.

Wielinski and her daughter Jill were also inside the home but survived.

A memorial was dedicated at the crash site in June 2012.

Relatives of the plane crash victims attended the board meeting to support the town's takeover of the 1.5-acre property.
