BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The agency that operates the Buffalo area's public transit system has turned over more than 350 acres of Lake Erie waterfront to two state agencies.
The NFTA on Thursday officially approved the sale of 354 acres for $1 to the state parks system and the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp.
The parks office will operate half of the land as a new state park with a beach. The other agency is in charge of developing Buffalo's waterfront and will assume responsibility for the rest of the acreage in the area known as the Outer Harbor.
The transit agency owned the waterfront property for 60 years but now wants to focus on its rail and bus operations.
