Roswell Park Looks to You for Help with E-Cigarette Study
Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Roswell Park Cancer Institute is looking for your help in a study to determine whether e-cigarettes are safer than tobacco cigarettes.
Dr. Maciej Goniewicz says he's looking for 180 people for the study. He says you can be a user of e-cigarettes, tobacco cigarettes, a user of both, or even a non-smoker. "We want to compare our results with healthy volunteers who do not smoke or use electronic cigarettes," says Goniewicz.
Goniewicz says he's looking to answer a couple of questions. "One of the important questions is how much nicotine can users of these products can get. We will be able to compare the doses of nicotine inhaled by e-cigarette users, tobacco cigarette users, and dual users," explains Goniewicz. "We also want to look at the exposure of dangerous compounds found in a small amount in electronic cigarettes so we want to assess how safe it is to inhale the vapors."
Goniewicz hopes to learn the long term impact of these products.
