Niagara Falls, NY (WBEN) An early-morning, high-speed chase in Niagara Falls resulted in the death of the pursued driver Sunday. According to New York State Police, a vehicle was spotted traveling at a high rate of speed with no headlights on Niagara Falls Boulevard and 74th Street when it ran a flashing red light and almost struck the trooper's patrol car. Authorities initiated a pursuit which ended when the suspect's car rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection of Niagara Falls Boulevard and 56th Street.
The driver of the speeding car was identified as 30 year-old, Lewis Worrells of Niagara Falls. Worrells was transported to ECMC where he later died of his injuries. The driver of the second car was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center but refused treatment and was released.
State Police are asking for any witnesses to the incident call the Lockport Division at 716-434-5589.
