(WBEN) Hundreds of parents, students and teachers attended a meeting of the Clarence School Board Monday to support a school curriculum that's been singled out as "inappropriate" by a local mother.
Ginger Lahti, in a letter to the school board, criticized the present curriculum ingeneral and raised specific concerns about the textbooks in the district.
Lahti, the wife of school board member Jason Lahti says the materials were inappropriate and "not conducive to to good character and moral development in children."
Lahti was referring to quotes taken from sex education booklets distributed to students. The parent complained the booklets contained profanity including the "F' word.
The complaint drew little support.
"You can't take out a sentence from a book and then say something is wrong with that literature. You have to look at the entire context," said Clarence School Board Member Julie McCullough, according to WGRZ Channel 2. (See VIDEO Below)
The district superintendent and the school board declined to make any changes in the current curriculum.
