Bills Talk of Coach Marrone's Skin Cancer

(WBEN) For a moment yesterday, the health crisis faced by Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly was overshadowed by another cancer scare at One Bills Drive.

Late yesterday, Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone revealed he has had a cancerous mole removed.

The news was posted on the team's website in the 11 pm hour, a possible response to an earlier report that was headlined "Coach Marrone announces he has cancer" and was briefly available on the team's website.

Here's the entire team statement on Marrone

"During a recent doctor's visit, it was discovered that I had a cancerous mole on my skin, which has since been removed. The only follow up required is to have my moles checked every three months and that basically is the end of the story. The recent extraction procedure will have no effect on my ability to coach the team moving forward."

The news on Marrone comes as there is a heightened awareness of cancer among Bills fans and staff.   Hall of Fame Quarterback Jim Kelly continues his battle against cancer in his head, neck and sinuses.

His wife Jill Kelly announced on Tuesday that Kelly would resume chemotherapy and radiation treatments as an outpatient, but has returned home from treatments in New York City and will remain at his home in East Aurora.
