Trick-or-Treat Disrupter Sentenced

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A man who used texts and social media to brag about disrupting a Buffalo-area neighborhood's Halloween trick-or-treating during a standoff with police has been sentenced to seven years in state prison.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office says Wednesday that 42-year-old Kenneth Markle was sentenced for his assault conviction in state Supreme Court.

Markle ambushed his estranged wife inside his Lackawanna apartment last Oct. 31, hitting her head with a baseball bat and choking her before she escaped with their child to a neighbor's house.

Markle refused to surrender to police and instead held them off for five hours as children usually would be trick or treating. Authorities say he used texts, phone calls and social media to boast about being the cause of the neighborhood disruption.
