Amherst, NY (WBEN) - Two men who stole items from an Amherst Wegmans led police on a chase through two towns Thursday afternoon.
Amherst Police responded to the Wegmans Food Market at 3135 Niagara Falls Blvd. for a report from store security that a suspect, later identified as 38 year old Charles Myers of Niagara Falls, had just stolen merchandise.
When police arrived, Myers had fled the store on foot and entered a vehicle driven by his accomplice, 43 year old James Jordan, also from Niagara Falls. Officer Stacey Klem located the suspects' vehicle traveling North on Niagara Falls Blvd. and attempted to pull the vehicle over when they continued and fled.
The chase continued into the Town of Niagara where the vehicle crashed into a flag pole and sign near the corner of Military Road at Edegwood. Both the driver and passenger fled from the crash on foot. Jordan was apprehended by Amherst Police Officer Kyle Lefevere and Myers was apprehended by officer Klem. No injuries were reported.
Myers was charged with Burglary in the 3rd degree, as well as petit larceny. Jordan was charged with petit larceny as well as numerous vehicle and traffic violations.
