New York Lawmakers Denounce NFL Redskins Name

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A bipartisan group of New York lawmakers is calling on the NFL's Washington Redskins to drop the team's name.

Republican Sen. George Maziarz, who leads the Senate's tribal relations committee, joined colleagues from the Senate and Assembly on Tuesday to say they'll introduce a resolution urging Redskins owner Daniel Snyder to rename the team.

A New York tribe has recently been leading a campaign against the name.

The lawmakers say the New York City-based NFL should pressure Snyder.

Several members of Congress from both parties have also asked Snyder to change the name.

The lawmakers were joined by Ray Halbritter, a representative of the Oneida Indian Nation, who says the resolution would ensure New York stands "on the right side of history."

A vote on the measure hasn't been scheduled.
