Larry Quinn was the top vote getter, with Patti Bowers Pierce second and Barbara Seals Nevergold in third.
Quinn and Bowers Pierce were backed by current board member Carl Paladino, who has been pushing for the removal of Dr. Pamela Brown as superintendent of schools. Paladino now has a majority of board members who have backed him to remove Brown.
Sam Radford of the District Parent Coordinating Council says he's gained two supporters of the DPCC with the elections of Quinn and Pierce. "Our responsibility is to partner with the board of education, but this year we've had some challenges this year. We hope going forward this will improve," says Radford.
After Quinn, Pierce and Nevergold, the only candidate with more than ten percent in the crowded 13 candidate field was 2013 mayoral candidate Bernie Tolbert with 11 percent . Incumbent John Licata trailed Tolbert and was not re-elected.
