Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda says the department is changing is policy on officers working off-duty outside bars. It comes in light of the incident at Molly's Pub two weeks ago.
"Yesterday, we rescinded the rights of officers to work outside bars," says Derenda. "They've never been allowed to work inside, but since the 90s, they've been allowed to work outside." Derenda says he personally feels it's a good thing to have trained officers outside of establishments with the ability security officers don't have, but policies are being reviewed.
Two Buffalo Police officers, off duty at the time, are suspended without pay as police investigate their roles in the incident, where Jeffrey Basil allegedly shoved Bill Sager, Jr. down a flight of stairs early May 11th.
