Buffalo, NY (WBEN) As Bill Sager, Jr. remains in a coma at ECMC, his family gathered at the Erie County Naval and Military Park to give thanks to supporters over the past two weeks.
Sager was thrown down the stairs at Molly's Pub back on May 11th. The manager, Jeffrey Basil, has been charged with assault in the case.
“It is only fitting that we gather at this site on this particular holiday weekend because Memorial Day is very important to Bill because he loves his country and the sacrifices that so many made makes our country so great,” said Bill Sager Sr. “We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support from throughout the community, especially by Bill’s fellow servicemen and women who took the time to join us today.”
Sager, Jr.'s fiancee Erika Webster added, “We ask everyone to keep Bill in your thoughts and prayers, especially during this holiday weekend where we honor the memory of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. There is no holiday that is more near to his heart than Memorial Day.”
The Sager family also announced that a charitable trust has been established in Bill Sager’s name. The trust is being administered by M&T Bank. Checks can be made out to the Bill Sager, Jr. Benefit Fund and mailed to the M&T Bank branch located at 10 Main Street, Silver Creek, New York 14136 or dropped off at any M&T Bank branch.
Sager's family also appealed for anyone to help with the investigation. “We urge anyone who has any information about this incident to please step forward and contact our office,” said Francis M. Letro, an attorney for the Sager family. “Any information can be a critical factor in helping to get justice for Bill Sager and his family.”
